International Biennale "Sculpture an Open Air"

THE FIRST STAGE "VIEWPOINT FROM WEST TO EAST"

2016

The first stage of the project began in 2016 with an exhibition of open-air park sculpture, which presented 16 authors in the exhibition entitled "Viewpoint from West to East" in the “Sophia of Kyiv” National Conservation Area. The Biennale takes place in the open air in the park Conservation area.

THE SECOND STAGE "3D. PUBLIC ART"

2018

The second stage of the project - "3D. Public Art "- took place in 2018.

The main purpose of the Second Biennale was to demonstrate and promote among wide audience 3D forms of contemporary art in public places with the focus on the necessity to install works of high quality public art in the urban environment.

 

Another feature of the Biennale-2018 was participation of Trans-Carpathian sculptors including ones from Hungarian ethnic group whose works were previously unknown to Kyivan public.

THE SECOND STAGE "GENIUS LOCI/GENIUS OF THE PLACE"

2020

The theme of the third - 2020 - "Genius Loci / Genius of the place." 

The theme of the Third Biennale – Genius Loci (Genius of the Place) – appeals to the concept of the sacred ‘spirit of the locality’ and its ability to attract outstanding people and to influence events.

 

The exhibition has been dedicated to the memory of Tonino Guerra (1920-2012), famous Italian poet, screenwriter, artist, sculptor, ceramist, designer, and synthesizing creative person, who stimulated the socio-cultural and economic development of many small towns in his home province of Emilia-Romagna. Because of the COVID -19 pandemic the Biennale's program has been realized partially (ceramic fountain installation 9 Sources, art residence in a small village Dymerka, Chernigiv region and foolow-up exhibition Sight ). The agenda of the Biennale-2020 - including participation of artists from Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Poland, Hungary, Finland and other countries - is planned to be copmpletely fulfilled in 2022.
